Michael P. Murphy, known as “Murph,” is a distinguished real estate developer, entrepreneur, and strategic advisor with a dynamic career spanning the Armed Forces, financial services, real estate development, large-scale construction, and risk management. As the founder of multiple successful ventures, he has built a legacy of leadership, innovation, and global influence.
As CEO of Global Building Solutions (GBS), Mr. Murphy transformed the company from a regional firm into an internationally acclaimed design and construction leader. Under his visionary leadership, GBS has delivered high-profile projects across the United States, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, with values ranging from millions to hundreds of millions of dollars. A defining achievement was securing a $560 million contract to develop 45,000-bed Workers’ Accommodation Villages for the 2024 Qatar FIFA World Cup, solidifying GBS’s reputation for excellence on the global stage.
Beyond his business ventures, Mr. Murphy has an extensive record of public service. A service-disabled veteran of the United States Army, he has served as a Public Trust Member on the U.S. Department of State Foreign Service Promotion Board. He holds the Eisenhower Commission of the Republican National Committee. He remains an active and lifelong member of the Republican Party.
As a Senior Advisor or Board Member for Africa and the Middle East (AME) at multiple firms specializing in corporate intelligence, business, and government engagement, Mr. Murphy utilizes his extensive expertise to connect clients with high-value opportunities. His strategic work facilitates engagement between AME stakeholders and senior U.S. government officials, influencing key policy and implementation decisions.
His dedication to humanitarian diplomacy is reflected in his roles as Inaugural Ambassador for the Sovereign Order of Malta to the Kingdom of Lesotho and Permanent Representative to the African Union. In these positions, he has engaged with Heads of State and Governments across all 55 African nations, successfully negotiating four bilateral treaty agreements between the Order and various African countries.
Fluent in English and French and conversant in Italian, Mr. Murphy divides his time between his residences in South Carolina, Washington, Maseru, Nairobi, and Addis Ababa, continuing to expand his global impact through business, diplomacy, and humanitarian efforts.
